The nation’s 41 FFRDCs spent $31.8 billion on R&amp;D in FY 2025, an increase of 0.34% over FY 2024 in current dollars. In 2023, microbusinesses reported a total of $8.3 billion in R&amp;D costs, of which 86%, or $7.1 billion, was domestic and 72%, or $5.9 billion, was performed by the microbusinesses themselves.
