Federal agency obligations for research and experimental development totaled over $190 billion in FY 2022, up 0.4% from FY 2021's total. Although federal funding for both basic and applied research increased by 9.2% between FY 2021 and FY 2022, funding for experimental development decreased by 6.8%.
