Microdata and related instructions from the National Survey of College Graduates are provided in the files below. Data are available for each survey year beginning with 1993.
All data files are provided as compressed .zip files. Use an archive utility program that supports the .zip format to uncompress the files you download to your computer.
Correction(s) Date 23 September 2025: Occupation and field of study labels were corrected in the SAS file formats and codebooks of the 2023 NSCG public use files. Of note, prior to 2023, occupation code 432360 represented all psychologists, including clinical. In 2023, a new code (611150) was introduced for psychologists in health services (e.g., clinical), and code 432360 was updated to represent only research and applied psychologists.
The derivation of three location variables (RESPLO3/RESPLCUS/RESPLOC) was corrected in the 2021 NSCG public use files (as of 23 May 2025) and the 2017 and 2019 NSCG public use files (as of 23 September 2025).
In addition, because of a data processing error, information about some respondents’ first bachelor’s degrees was missing from the 2021 NSCG data file. This information was restored and resulted in changes to other related educational history variables, including undergraduate financing information, updated on 23 May 2025.
All corrections to the public use files also have been updated in the restricted use files.
