Additional Resources
The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) within the U.S. National Science Foundation has a wealth of information on the U.S. science and engineering (S&E) enterprise, including additional data and analysis on degree recipients and degree-granting institutions. The latest information from NCSES is available at https://ncses.nsf.gov/.
Data tools
NCSES data tools at ncsesdata.nsf.gov provide additional ways to interact with data from the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED).
- The NCSES interactive data tool enables the creation of visualizations and custom tables from the SED and other NCSES surveys. To build a custom table using SED data, visit ncsesdata.nsf.gov/builder/sed.
- The SED Restricted Data Analysis System (RDAS) (ncsesdata.nsf.gov/rdas) expands public access to SED data through a secure platform to analyze a more comprehensive set of SED data items starting with the 2017 survey data. The SED RDAS uses statistical procedures to produce estimates that reflect the entire population of doctorate recipients while protecting confidentiality of individuals’ data.

Science and Engineering Indicators
Science and Engineering Indicators is a biennial report that offers a comprehensive look at the U.S. S&E enterprise, including education, demographics, employment, research and development expenditures, science and technology capabilities, and public attitudes and understanding about science. SED data are included in the Science and Engineering Indicators report Higher Education in Science and Engineering available at https://ncses.nsf.gov/indicators.
Diversity and STEM: Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities
The biennial report Diversity and STEM: Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities focuses on the participation of these three groups in S&E education and the labor force. Topics in the report include enrollment, degree attainment, employment status, occupations, and earnings. SED data are included in the report, which is available at https://ncses.nsf.gov/wmpd.
